素材を探していて、気仙沼のシャークスキンに出会いました。原皮は、食用として水揚げされた鮫のもの。フカヒレの副産物です。本来なら使われずに終わる部位でした。
他の革にはない風合いと、水に対する強い耐久性。この素材の性質が、そのまま靴の方向を決めました。タフに都会を生き抜くための靴という考え方は、ここから始まり、のちにCITY CLIMBINGというシリーズへ発展していきます。
都会的な洗練と、街を生き抜くタフさの融合。それを装飾ではなく、素材の性質そのもので満たしています。
I was looking for materials and came across sharkskin from Kesennuma. The raw hide comes from sharks landed for food — a by-product of shark fin. It would otherwise have gone unused.
A texture no other leather has, and a strong resistance to water. The character of the material set the direction of the shoe. The idea of a shoe tough enough to get through the city started here, and later grew into the CITY CLIMBING series.
Urban refinement and the toughness to survive the streets — met not through ornament, but through the properties of the material itself.
