靴が捨てられるのは、壊れるからではありません。直せないからです。
ReSHOEは、直し続けることを前提に設計しました。アッパーは豚革、インソールも豚革、カップインソールは天然コルクとリサイクルEVA、アウトソールはラクテヘベアの天然ゴム。すべての部材が、交換できるように組まれています。
素材に豚革を選んだのは、食肉の副産物として日本でいちばん多く出る皮だからです。と畜されるのは牛が年間約105万頭、豚は約1,684万頭。牛の16倍です。そして今回使った原皮は、サプライチェーンが明確です。環境の管理された養豚場から、タンナーが直接仕入れています。この二つが、この素材を選んだ理由です。

半年に一度のクリーニングとヒール交換、二年に一度のオールソール。手入れを続ければ、20年履けるように設計しています。
最後は土に還すことを考えています。金沢バイオと分解の実験を始めましたが、二週間の試験では分解しませんでした。分解する微生物の選定と、もっと長い時間が要ります。ここはまだ、できていません。
2025年1月、経済産業省が主管する JAPAN LEATHER SHOWROOM の一員として、フィレンツェのピッティ・イマージネ・ウオモとパリの MAN/WOMAN で発表しました。製品化には至っていません。できていないことを含めて、循環を靴の形にした提案です。
Shoes are not thrown away because they break. They are thrown away because they cannot be repaired.
ReSHOE was designed on the premise of being repaired again and again. A pigskin upper, a pigskin insole, a cup insole of natural cork and recycled EVA, and an outsole of Lactae Hevea natural rubber. Every component is built to be replaced.
Pigskin was chosen because it is the hide that arises in the greatest quantity in Japan as a by-product of meat. Around 1.05 million cattle are slaughtered each year, against roughly 16.84 million pigs — sixteen times as many. And the hides used here have a clear supply chain: the tannery buys directly from a hog farm with a managed environment. Those two things are why this material was chosen.

Cleaning and a heel top-lift every six months; a resole every two years. Maintained that way, the shoe is designed to be worn for twenty years.
The intention is that it finally returns to the soil. We began decomposition tests with Kanazawa Bio, but in a two-week trial it did not break down. Selecting the right microbes, and far more time, will be needed. This part is not done.
In January 2025 it was presented at Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence and at MAN/WOMAN in Paris, as part of the JAPAN LEATHER SHOWROOM organised by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It has not reached production. Including what has not been achieved, it is a proposal for circulation given the form of a shoe.
